I was a very picky eater as a child, so it is ironic that I am now so passionate about nutrition and helping others use food for medicine. It all started about twelve years ago when my daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of ten. I was absolutely devastated, but I was also determined to find the best treatment for her so she could live as normal a life as possible.
All the research I did kept bringing me back to food- and how nutrition was the foundation on which health needs to be built. I had a difficult time finding health professionals who could help me sort through all the conflicting information to decide what she should eat, and how to support her health with food. I even had a couple of doctors tell me she could eat anything she wanted, especially since she couldn't gain weight. So I understand how frustrating it is to waste precious time- waiting months for appointments with specialists, and spending countless hours doing your own research. It took me six months to finally be ready and prepared to start my daughter on a healing diet.
We discovered that food was the only thing, after trying other treatments, that actually made a difference. It made a HUGE difference. It was such a difference, that all her symptoms actually disappeared. She was taking no medications at all once she started her diet, so we knew without a doubt that the diet alone made all the difference in the world. All her lab work returned to normal. Inflammatory markers were normal. Food sensitivies dissappeared. Stomachaches disappeared. She started gaining weight. She grew six inches in one year. It was truly miraculous to witness. So I became a big believer in the healing power of food.
My passion for healthy eating led me to enroll in the Nutritional Therapy Association and become certified as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.
After helping my daughter, I started to experience health symptoms that doctors couldn't diagnose: Shortness of breath, fatigue, anxiety, digestive problems, unwanted weight loss and a long list of hypothyroid symptoms. I was eating what I thought was a pretty clean diet, but still not feeling well. I actually felt at times like I was dying. I finally found a doctor who made the connection between all of my symptoms and labwork to a bio-toxin illness from exposure to mold. Because of the toxins and fungal component of the illness, it meant following a very specific diet to help in my recovery. Luckily, it was not a big change from the way I was already eating. In addition to diet, supplements, herbs and working on mineral balancing and detoxification have helped me tremendously in feeling better and gaining back my health.
Through all of these experiences, I have developed a passion to help moms that are struggling with their children's chronic health conditions, or their own health concerns, as well as educating young couples about pre-conception nutrition for fertility and wellness in future generations. Many of my clients face chronic anxiety, stress, thyroid and gallbladder issues.
Don't waste any more time feeling sick or trying to figure out what to do on your own. I know from my own experience, that when you are in a health crisis- whether yours or a loved one's- it can help to talk to someone who has been there, and can give you guidance that will help you make the best choices and prioritize your options. You want to work with someone who will take the time to listen to you, to really understand all your concerns and struggles, and help you focus on the
